LG Channels Is Totally Ripping Off ‘Puppy Bowl’ for the World Cup
LG Channels Rips Off ‘Puppy Bowl’ for World Cup
LG Channels has launched a new sports-themed show that closely mirrors the beloved Puppy Bowl format, but with a soccer twist. The program, titled “Puppy Cup”, features puppies playing a miniature version of soccer on a custom-built pitch, complete with commentary and slow-motion replays. The show is designed to capitalize on the excitement of the upcoming World Cup, offering a cute, family-friendly alternative to the high-stakes tournament.
However, the move has drawn criticism for being a blatant rip-off of Animal Planet’s iconic Puppy Bowl, which has aired annually since 2005. Critics note that LG Channels is owned by the same parent company as Animal Planet, Warner Bros. Discovery, but the Puppy Cup is produced by a different studio, Bright Spot Content. Interestingly, Bright Spot Content also produces the official Puppy Bowl for Animal Planet, meaning the same production company is behind both shows.
While some viewers welcome the new program as a fun World Cup companion, others see it as a lazy cash grab. LG Channels has not commented on the similarity, but the overlap in production teams suggests that the Puppy Cup is a deliberate, if not entirely original, spin-off. The show premieres this month, just in time for the World Cup kickoff.
