‘Streets of Rage’ Movie Adaptation Gains Momentum with New Creative Team

Lionsgate is moving forward with its film adaptation of the classic Sega video game Streets of Rage. The studio has announced a new creative team to helm the project, with Jeymes Samuel set to direct. Samuel is best known for his work on the acclaimed Western The Harder They Fall.

Alongside Samuel, the studio has brought in Pat Casey and Josh Miller to write the screenplay. The duo are known for their work on Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequel, as well as the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, giving them strong credentials in video game adaptations.

The film was originally developed with a screenplay by Derek Kolstad, the creator of the John Wick franchise. However, the project has now pivoted with this new team. No plot details have been revealed, but the original game follows vigilantes Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding as they fight a crime syndicate in a gritty city.

Key details include:

  • Director: Jeymes Samuel (The Harder They Fall)
  • Writers: Pat Casey and Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog)
  • Studio: Lionsgate

The project is still in early development, with no casting or release date announced. Fans of the beat-’em-up series will be watching closely for further updates.
