Sarajevo Unveils Seven Projects Championed Through Female Filmmakers Support Program
The Sarajevo Film Festival has announced the seven projects selected for its 2024 Female Filmmakers Support Program, offering tailored financial and professional assistance. The initiative aims to boost gender equality in the industry by backing women-led films from Southeast Europe.
The chosen projects span diverse genres and nationalities. Highlights include:
- A Romanian legal doc exploring courtroom dynamics and justice.
- A film about two Serbian teens fleeing political repression, examining youth under pressure.
- An Albanian drama focusing on intergenerational trauma and migration.
- A Bosnian feature blending magical realism with post-war identity.
- A Slovenian documentary on women in male-dominated labor sectors.
- A Croatian thriller about digital surveillance and personal freedom.
- A Montenegrin animated short tackling environmental activism through folklore.
Each project will receive mentorship, networking opportunities, and funding to advance production. The program, now in its eighth year, has previously supported over 40 films, many premiering at major festivals. Sarajevo’s director emphasized that “supporting female voices is not just about equity—it’s about enriching storytelling.” The selected filmmakers will present their projects during the festival’s August industry events.
